About Spectrum Internet

Spectrum, a division of Charter Communications, serves more than 28 million residential customers across 41 states. They're one of the top 10 service providers in the country, making them a popular choice when it comes to internet service.  Spectrum's collective internet reviews and customer satisfaction ratings have netted them a score of 59 on the American Customer Satisfaction Index. The fact that they provide a brisk 100 Mbps of bandwidth starting at $49.99 per month is often appealing to a lot of customers. It's important to do your own research, though, to find out if they're the right choice for your home.

Should you use Spectrum Internet?

Everyone has different needs when it comes to internet service. For one person, speed might be the most important factor. For another, it might be price. Spectrum offers a wide variety of speeds and plan options to fit many needs.

If you’re someone who doesn’t like commitment, then Spectrum might not be for you. They require a 12-month agreement on their plans. They’re also not the most budget-friendly option. Their plans start at $49.99 per month, while providers like Xfinity have plans starting at just $29.99 per month.

If having the option to bundle your services matters to you, then Spectrum is an excellent choice. They have a Triple Play package that combines internet, TV and voice for $99.99 per month. That plan features over 125 HD channels, high-speed internet starting at 100 Mbps and unlimited nationwide calling.

Spectrum Internet contracts

In most markets, Spectrum now requires a 12-month contract. Previously, they were one of the few internet companies that didn’t require an agreement. Should you have buyer’s remorse and need to cancel your service before the end of your 12-month agreement, you’ll be charged a fee based on the months remaining on the contract. For example, if the cancellation fee is $300, then a customer that makes it halfway through their contract will pay around $150.

Check with Spectrum directly for rules and fees associated with new accounts.

Spectrum Internet bundle options

Spectrum is an excellent option when it comes to bundling because they offer a wide range of options. You don’t even have to choose one of their plans; you can create your own. Just let them know if you want television, internet and/or phone service (which they refer to as “voice”).

If you’re looking for a combination of everything, Spectrum’s Triple Play package is available for $99.99 per month. It features more than 125 channels in HD, internet starting at 100 Mbps and unlimited nationwide calling.  You can even upgrade to packages with more channels and faster internet speed. This plan can save you an average of about $4.99 per month. Perhaps best of all, it consolidates your bills and services into one easy location.

Spectrum Internet deals and value

  • Contract buyout: If you’re stuck in a contract with a provider you’re unhappy with, Spectrum will give you up to $500 to get out of it.
  • Unlimited data: Spectrum doesn’t cap the amount of data usage on your account. You can use your internet as much as you want and never worry about being slowed down or charged more.
  • Free modem: Unlike many other providers, Spectrum doesn’t charge you if you use your own modem.
  • Network of hotspots: When you’re away from home, you still have access to Spectrum’s vast network of Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide.

The bottom line

Spectrum’s 12-month agreement might be too much for those who like their freedom, and their starting price is relatively high at $49.99 per month. But you’re not locked in; the 30-day money-back guarantee offers a relatively safe way to give the service a try.
